Grace Undeserving! Managing the Post Abortive Life - F.A. Cole Writes About Her Own Experiences Regarding Abortion
F.A. Cole, an award-winning humanitarian, author, educator and advocate, has recently released her book titled, “The Children Who Never Were,” where she talks about God’s unconditional love for sinners. Although God hates sin, He loves the sinner and is willing to forgive, including women who decided to have an abortion. Although she aborted three of her unborn children, the book is not about condemnation but about hope and love. The book shows how God’s love for humankind prevails and about a mother’s love for her child, despite the child not being given the chance to live.
F.A. Cole says, “Remember, I have had three abortions so I’m in no position to judge anyone. I know without any doubt that if my children whom I aborted were asked to choose between death and life, they would choose life. Unfortunately, even though it was their body, I made the decision for them, believing that my choice was about only me.”
She adds, “To some, abortion is seen as a right (pro-choice). For others, it is viewed as an act against the will of God (pro-life). No matter a person’s stand on this very life transforming issue, they have the right to choose. The creator of humankind – God, gave us free will. Now, there are consequences of course but God allows us to choose. One thing I was not told about abortion is its long-term effect: particularly chemical abortion. I was haunted for years by the blood I shed (this may not be the case for every woman who has had an abortion). But when I realized I erred against God, I asked for mercy – which He had already granted and was only waiting for me to receive what was mine – Undeserving Grace."
F.A. Cole is a survivor of female genital mutilation (FGM), child sexual assault, and rape, but despite all that, she has become one of the most influential voices. In her autobiography, “Distant Sunrise - The Strength in Her Pain to Forgive,” she talks about the pain and suffering of women who have underwent FGM and managed to survive physically, mentally, and spiritually. This has made her popular and she has spoken at various forums and conducted interviews. She has also received an award from the Northwest High School, Women in History 2013. She had shared her story with the students, motivating them to a live with purpose. She was also given the Distinguished Author and Activist Award by FestAfrica USA. She is currently a member of the Board of the Director of the Global Woman P.E.A.C.E. Foundation, which is a non-profit organization that works with survivors of gender based violence, especially FGM, in the DC Metro Area.
Dr. LaShanta Tinner, in the Foreword that she wrote for “The Children Who Never Were,” stated, “F.A. Cole bravely and boldly sends a message to women and men globally that although abortion is against the will of God, it is because of His grace that there can be peace beyond the sorrow. Cole challenges societies not to judge what both men and women do but to consider how the past can transform a person, bring light upon a dark situation and, most importantly, build a relationship with the Heavenly Father. With political debates and biased opinions, we are clouded and take little or no consideration about a personal circumstance.”
The book offers hope to women who’ve had one or more abortions. The author wants to emphasize that the first step for them to accept the forgiving grace that God offers is to forgive themselves. Although they may feel rejected by society, it is important for them to realize that God loves them. And for those people who “judge” these women, she reminds them that they don’t have the right to do so because only God can.
